Wednesday, May 28

Wow…..today is the day. I’ve been thinking and planning this trip since February, and now I am really leaving. I’m excited, scared, apprehensive, but looking forward to the trip. I like to drive, so I know I won’t mind driving across the country. It’s 5:00 AM and I’m out the door. I was told to leave by 5 as it will help to avoid rush hour traffic in some of the large cities. And they were right.

Unfortunately, Google maps does not offer the service that AAA does. It does not tell you where there is major construction and roads are closed. I’m going into St. Louis, admiring the arch and crossing the Missouri River and thinking I just keep following I-64. Just on the other side of downtown St. Louis – NO I-64. It closes!! There is just no road as they are building it all over again. So I get detoured to I-70N which turns into I-70W. And guess what!! I was supposed to have gotten on I70W in St. Louis. Sometimes bad things happen for good reasons. If the freeway had not been under construction, I would have merrily continued on I-64 and would have been heading south instead of west.

So now I am into Missouri headed towards Kansas City. I stopped at Columbia, MO for the evening, go to TGIF Fridays for something to eat, and then back to the hotel to do “RENTALS”. Always fun after driving for 11 (yes, count them) hours. It was a long day.
